Frames is a series of digital collages combining photographs of hand-made wood veneer models. In these works, I explore the interplay between form and surface, using the inherent two-dimensionality of wood veneer, a material traditionally designed to overlay objects. Fixed perspectives come to collide within the digital collage, where the dimensional loss of experiential space in the photographic moment represents, in turn, a spatial gain for these veneers which are now subjectively rendered.

My fascination with dualities is further echoed in the use of consecutive wood veneer leaves. Pulling open slices of wood to reveal organic near-symmetries, and a new spatiality that I collapse and expand through the combination of illusionistic and physical carpentry joints. The process of making serves as a metaphor for photography itself: the proposition that surface and real space can coexist within the same object. Through this work, I aim to capture and suspend the slippage between two and three dimensions.
